A conference entitled “Pornography: Fantasy, Reality and Industry” was held this past Friday at Notre Dame’s Center for Continuing Education, Indianna. University of Texas journalism professor Robert Jensen opened the event by asking attendees to complete the sentence, “Pornography is …”
According to student news site “The Observer,” responses ranged from “expressive” and “entertainment” to “seductive” and “dehumanizing.” (…)
“Pornography is what the end of the world looks like,” Jensen said. “When one looks honestly at the contemporary porn industry, one sees some disturbing images of where this world is heading.”
Discussing how adult companies need to continually produce “new and interesting products” that have evolved from straight, vaginal sex in the 1960’s and ’70’s, to anal sex in the ’80’s and even more extreme material today. (…) “Where is the industry going, and what could possibly come after this?” Jensen said. “I have asked this to several pornographers. Some will say, ‘I hate to say it, but the only place left to go is overt violence.’ The other place to go is to continue to sexualize youth.”

While many a hearing person has muted a porn video, it’s nice to have a choice about what you want to hear — or see — and what you don’t. Deaf Bunny, the first deaf-owned and deaf-staffed porn company, launched in August with the mission of making porn accessible to deafies and their hearing partners in as many forms as possible.

I caught up with Deaf Bunny founder Dino Capone by e-mail to find out what makes deaf porn unique, how his company educates while it entertains, and what hearing people can learn about sex by watching deaf porn actors.
Wired News: You use deaf performers to create adult entertainment for an audience that includes deaf, hard of hearing (HH) and hearing people. What is unique about the performers’ interaction that viewers won’t find in mainstream porn?
Dino Capone: Deaf Bunny uses deaf and HH actors and actresses primarily to connect with the majority of the viewers, who are deaf and HH. American Sign Language is the common thread of the deaf community and the social behaviors — such as eye contact, body language, facial expressions and vocals (deaf people are loud!) — are unique to our culture. You won’t find that in mainstream adult movies. The fact that we are marketing porn with a “disability” actually invites people to discover what we’re about.

“What’s happening in the industry is an unacceptable amount of theft,” said Jon B., a vice president at Red Light District who asked that his full name not be used because family members don’t know what he does.
He said Internet piracy might be reducing his company’s profit 35%.
The executive said suing websites was likely to prove futile because so many existed and because file-trading occurred over decentralized networks, leaving no single party to sue.
Instead, he said Red Light was considering suing individual downloaders for pirating copyrighted material, as the music industry is doing.
“If it scares them enough, if it can take away 20% of the illegal downloads, we’ll be doing the best that we can,” he said.

I mean when you first get interviewed, do they pay by the inch, or by how attractive you are in general or by how much prior professional experience you have in the industry. James… you can make anything from $50 to $1500 per scene. You get paid per scene, and nothing more. No royalties, no inches, nothing to do with your attractiveness. Here are some more ideas about how to get involved.
Getting into the porn industry is very very difficult if you are a man. You must be able to get it up, keep it up, and then cum within 2 or 3 minutes of being asked. That is a given. You have to be at least 7 inches and very thick, preferably over eight. You have to be in some kind of physical shape, and you have to have stamina. You have to be willing to work with any girl in any situation, and be prepared for stop-start sex.
Sending pictures will get you nowhere. You have to actually GO to the studios and introduce yourself and then they will take naked polaroids of you and get back to you. But even then, your chances are minimal.
There is always a market for porn actors, regardless of your background and personal requirements, but at the same time you have to have (a) talent, (b) luck, and (c) you must be in a good location. New York, Miami, San Fran, London, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Prague, Budapest, Montreal, Toronto, Vegas, even Minneapolis all have decent porn-producing studios, but 95% of the top adult movies in the world today are produced in Porn Valley. That is the San Fernando Valley in NorthWest Los Angeles, California. If you don’t live in or near that valley, your chances are automatically significantly smaller.
